How to build a boat SLJ 2021-2022 Activity #2

 Hello everyone,

Today my Dad helped me build  a boat from recycled materials. We used a shampoo bottle, rubber bands and ice-cream sticks. It was so fun to do. We tested it in the sink. Here is the video.

  1. Kia Ora Mark,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the summer learning journey.

I really enjoyed this activity as I used to love making boats with my brother and racing them down the creek!

I think your boat looks awesome and it is great to see that it is made out of recycled materials and that it floated well with a passenger in it!!

What did you enjoy about this activity and what did you find challenging?

Keep up the good work and I hope to see more of your posts during the Summer Learning Journey!!

    Ngā mihi nui,

    1. Dear Zana,

Thank you for your comment. I needed help with cutting the shampoo bottle. My dad helped me with that. I enjoy seeing the propeller turn and make the boat move.

  2. Kia ora Mark,

It’s Fiona from the Manaiakalani team. It is great to see you having a go at this boat building challenge with your dad. I like the way you have chosen to do the step it up challenge to create a self propelled boat - well done!

I think you have done a fabulous job of designing and creating your boat. I really enjoyed watching the video you posted of your boat motoring around in your sink. Have you tried it in a larger body of water? I wonder how far it would go?

Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more great quality posts from you during the summer learning journey.

    Ngā mihi,
    Fiona Waugh

    1. Hi Fiona,

I should have tried it in the sea when I went for holiday but I didn't. The boat is in the recycling bin now.
