Something that flies SLJ 2021-2022 Activity #1

 Hello Everyone,

Today I did my first Summer Learning activity - Something that flies. My Slide

First I watched Nanogirl's video and made some things that can fly. I made an aeroplane, hoop glider and just a hoop. I also made a jet plane. Here is my video.  Link

Then I measured what flies the furthest. The aeroplane can fly the furthest because of the shape. I didn't think a hoop glider can even fly. Did you?

It is so fantastic to see you give an activity from SLJ a go!!

Awesome work including slides, and a video!!! I would have loved to see the planes fly in your video! Were you surprised by your results? Do you know how things fly?

Your slides are amazing as well! I love the graphics!

I did think that a hoop glider could fly, but that is because you can scrunch up a piece of paper and it can ‘fly’. Do you think anything can fly, or just things with wings, such as planes or birds?

I believe you have put a lot of effort into this post, so I am going to label it as OUTSTANDING! Ka pai Mark!!

I am so looking forward to seeing more of your mahi throughout this raumati (summer) for SLJ! There are two other Nanogirl activities on the SLJ blog if that is what you’re most into! Check them all out!!

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Charlotte :)

My name is Quein and I am a blog commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. I agree with Charlotte this is a fantastic blog post. You have incorporated an awesome video link of the paper planes, and a concise and clear powerpoint explaining to your fellow bloggers on how to create their own paper planes. I can see that you put a tremendous amount of effort into the task and the post- KA PAI!!! It was good to see you list the materials that you need to create these paper planes. Thank you for sharing your images of the aircraft.

It is fantastic to see you completing so many of the tasks for the SLJ. Which has been your favorite so far? I really enjoyed paper planes and the geometrical tasks as I enjoy activities where you can create new things.

Keep up the Super work we look forward to your next blog post!!!

    Ngā mihi,
    Quein

  3. Dear Charlotte and Quein,

Thank you for your comments. I have added to my slides a video of me flying an aeroplane, jet plane, hoop glider and just hoop. I have also added slides on what we need to fly, how aeroplaes fly and how hot air balloons fly.
